This invention relates to a process for the preparation of lyophilized antioxidant powder from Black cumin (Nigella sativa L.) seeds. The process is for the extraction of water soluble antioxidants from Black cumin (BCWE)- Nigella sativa L seeds having 3-4 fold increased antioxidant levels relative to that of solvent extract (BCME) of BC has been highlighted. The isolated material may find uses as in food and herbal formulations for multi health benefits in food industry as well as in pharmaceuticals and cosmetic industry where antioxidant rich formulations are employed in development of drugs for acidity, immunopotentiation, anti inflammatory, antiulcer, anticancer, hair care, nail care etc.
