Disclosed is a yarn of collagen fiber from animal leather, which may optionally comprised textile fiber, wherein the collagen fiber derived from at least one type of leathers and animal skins, and the collagen fiber amounts to 1-100% by weight of the yarn and is made of dispersed collagen fiber derived by loosening fiber from at least one type of leathers and animal skins, and the textile fiber amounts to 0-99 % by weight of the yarn, and that the textile fiber and/or the collagen fiber are twisted together. Also disclosed is a process for manufacturing the yarn described above, in that the process comprises: choosing rawhide materials, liming, washing with water, deliming, tanning and softening, dehydrating, loosening fibers, assorting, blending, carding, drawing, and twisting; wherein acid protease is used for deliming, and the pH value in the deliming solution is controlled between 3 and 6. Also disclosed is a method for manufacturing the yarn described above comprising: choosing raw materials from tanned leather materials and at least one of the synthetic textile fibers or natural textile fibers; loosening collagen fibers to obtain dispersed collagen fibers with a single strand; assorting the dispersed collagen fibers; blending various fibers; carding blended fibers to form continuous fiber; drawing the fiber for improving the uniformity of the fibers; and twisting the fiber to form yarns.
