A COMPUTER CONTROLLED PROCESS FOR CALCULATING THE PERFORMANCE OF ANMALS FEEDING ON A PASTURE CROP PLANT

A computer controlled process for calculating the performance of animals feeding on a pasture crop plant is disclosed. The computer is programmed to a) receive a dry matter yield value of a first crop plant for a growing time period; b) receive a metabolizable energy (ME) value of the first crop plant for the first growing time period; c) receive a neutral detergent fiber digestibility percentage (NDF%) value for the first crop plant for the first growing time period; d) calculate a feed intake of a feeding animal from the product of a first comparison value multiplied by the weight of the feeding animal divided by the NDF% from step c); and e) calculate a feed ME intake from the product of the ME from step b) multiplied with the feed intake from step d). An animal yield is calculated from the dry matter yield from step a), feed intake from step d), and a feed ME intake from step e). A feeding income for the first crop plant is calculated from the animal yield and a gross margin can be calculated as the sum of the feeding income minus a total costs value over the growing time period.
