The invention relates to an activated bentonite, a process for obtaining the same and to an installation for applying the process, with applicability for obtaining drilling fluids. According to the invention, the bentonite consists, in mass percentage, of 83...88% milled bentonite, 5...6.5% ethylenglycol, 2...4% sodium carbonate. According to the invention the process consists in treating bentonite having an average particle diameter of 1.5...45 mm with 6...7.5% ethylenglycol and conditioning for 60...90 min at the temperature of 18...35°C, afterwards it is brought in contact with a solution of sodium carbonate, afterwards the mixture is dried in a microwave field, up to a humidity of 1.5...10%, wherefrom there results an activated bentonite which is milled up to a fineness of 2...8% residue on the 0.063 mm sieve. According to the invention, the installation comprises a bin feed (1), a multiroll crusher (2) wherefrom the bentonite is taken over on a conveyer belt (3), some spraying elements (5 and 8), a mixer (10), a microwave reactor drier (13), mounted in connection with a roller mill (15) for milling the activated bentonite which is stored in a bagging area (16).
