The invention concerns a vacuum switch chamber and a method for producing the same as per the preambles of claims 1 and 3. In order to improve this type of vacuum switch chamber and a method for the production thereof, with respect to subsequent casting, so that the advantages described are utilised but the disadvantages specified are avoided, the invention proposes that in order to prepare for subsequent casting, the outer surface of the vacuum switch chamber (1) be provided with a protective sleeve (2) that is made from an elastic, elastomeric or plastomeric material, said sleeve being applied to the surface of the vacuum switch chamber simply by heat shrinking without the need for additional expanding mechanical means.
