ISOLATION, CHARACTERIZATION AND PROPAGATION OF GERMLINE STEM CELLS

Methods are provided for the isolation, characterization and propogation ofgermline cells stem cells from fetal and adult mammals. Additionally, isolatedpopulations of germline cells having different phenotypes are disclosed whereinthe subpopulations are capable of forming long-term cultures of multipotentor pluripotent cells or are capable of differentiating into mature germlinecells and repopulating a sterile reproductive organ. The multipotent or pluripotentgermline cells are also suitable for differentiation into tissue-specificsomatic cells for therapeutic purposes.
