The column has an elongation pipe (2) displaceably mounted in an outer guiding pipe (1) in telescope-like manner. A clamping device (3) clamps the elongation pipe in the guiding pipe. The clamping device includes two clamping bolts (4) with respective diameters, which lie opposite to each other. The bolts are displaced in opposite directions by an actuator, which is actuated using a hand. The bolts press the elongation pipe at clamping surfaces, which are associated to the guiding pipe and lie opposite to each other between the bolts, by elastic deformation in a clamping position.
