A composition comprising a polypeptide of the envelope protein of the virus disease beak and feather (BFDV): (a) having an amino acid sequence having at least 80% identity with a sequence shown in any one of Figures 5 to 8 which is capable of generating an immunogenic response directed against a circovirus and wherein in said said composition protein encapsidated circular single stranded derived circovirus sequences containing replication origin and action nucleotide sequence cis necessary for replication, wherein: (b) the circular nucleotide sequence encapsidated single-stranded is replicated by BFDV Rep expressed in trans; (C) circular encapsidated single-stranded nucleotide sequence is a native BFDV genome, and constitutes an infectious virion when encapsidated by the BFDV coat protein; (D) the circular nucleotide sequence encapsidated single-stranded in BFDV genome with its Rep gene replaced, and is non-replicating in transfected cells or in birds; or (e) the circular nucleotide sequence encapsidated single-stranded is a BFDV genome with its coat protein gene replaced with another gene, and is replication-competent in transfected cells or in birds; for use in a method for preventing and / or treating a circovirus infection.
