The present invention relates generally to Activity Dependent NeurotrophicFactor (ADNF). More particularly, the present invention relates to a family ofpolypeptides derived from ADNF that exhibit neuroprotective/neurotrophicaction onneurons originating in the central nervous system and to uses thereof for thetreatment ofneurological deficiencies and for the prevention of cell death. The presentinvention alsorelates to pharmaceutical compositions designed to prevent neuronal celldeath.
