HYDROPHILIC POLYMER BLENDS USED FOR DRY COW THERAPY

The present invention provides a mammalian teat dip composition capable ofbeing used during a mammal's dry period comprising a solution of a film-forming polymer blend comprising a first polymer component which is anorganic, solvent-soluble, preformed, thermoplastic polyurethane having noreactive isocyanate groups and a second polymer component which is ahydrophilic poly(N-vinyl lactam), said blend capable of withstanding exposureto water without significant loss of said hydrophilic poly(N-vinyl lactam) inan amount sufficient to form a water-resistant film upon topical applicationto mammalian skin; and wherein said blend comprises from about 10 to about 80weight percent of said first polymer in combination with said solvent and fromabout 1 to about 20 weight percent of said second polymer; and at least oneantimicrobial agent in an amount sufficient to treat and protect mammalianskin from infection; wherein said composition is capable of being removed bypeeling.
