The invention relates to a method and to a device forthe diagnosis and state monitoring of a wear andfunc-tional state of a junction and/or a crossing and/or acrossroads and/or rail joints and/or trackinhomogenei-ties of a rail traffic path which is made of severaltracks. According to the invention, swing accelerationin at least one direction is measured and stored whenovertaking a rail vehicle on a junction, crossings orcrossroads, in addition to rail joints or trackinho-mogeneities on at least one component of the railvehi-cle, the swing acceleration being produced on thecom-ponent of the rail vehicle when overtaking the railve-hicle at the junction, crossing or crossroads, railjoints, track inhomogeneities. The inventive methodalso measures and stores the speed of the rail vehiclesand determines and stores the direction of travel,de-termines and stores the place of the junction, crossingor crossroads, rail joints, track inhomogeneities,car-ries out a control as to whether characteristic,prede-termined threshold values of the measured swingaccel-erations have been exceed. If the predeterminedthresh-old value of the swing accelerations are exceeded, asubsequent, further measurement of the state of thecomponents of the junction, crossing or crossroads,rail joints and track inhomogeneities takes place.
