A computerized method of determining theslow wave of a gastrointestinal tract comprising the stepsof providing an ingestible capsule (20) having a pressuresensor (29), having a subject ingest the capsule, recordingmeasurements from the pressure sensor as the capsulepasses through the gastrointestinal tract of the subject,transmitting the measurements to a processor (31), conditioningthe measurements (42) to provide pressure data asa function of a time interval (60), interpolating missingpressure data in the time interval (43), filtering the pressuredata as a function of a desired bandpass (44), differencingthe pressure data (45), windowing the pressure data(46), applying a sample size and an overlap between samplesto segment the pressure data (47), applying a Fouriertransform to the segmented pressure data to provide frequencypressure data (48), selecting an FFT frequencybandpass (49), computing power spectrum density of thetransformed pressure data for the FFT bandpass (50), andplotting the transformed pressure data (53), whereby adominate pressure frequency (70) correlating to a slowwave of at least a portion of the gastrointestinal tract isprovided.
