A toric ophthalmic lens having substantially zerospherical aberration for a first circular aperture having a first diameterand substantially zero spherical aberration for a secondcircular aperture having a second diameter, the first diameter beingat least 4 mm and the second diameter being at least 3 mm,the first diameter being at least 0.5 mm larger than the seconddiameter. A series of ophthalmic lenses, each lens comprising asame spherical power as the other lenses in the set, and a uniquecylindrical power, each lens comprising (i) a first toric surface,and (ii) a second surface, at least one of the first surface and thesecond surface being aspheric in a meridian, the lens havingsubstantially zero spherical aberration for all circular opticalzone diameters less than 4 mm.
