ANALYTE DETECTION ASSAY BASED ON FLUORESCENTLY LABELLED MICROSPHEROIDAL PARTICLES

A rapid and sensitive analyte detection assay is based on whispering gallerymodes of fluorescently labelled microspheroidalparticles. Ligands for the analyte, such as nucleic acids, are anchored to theparticles. The fluorescent labels may comprisefluorophores or quantum dots. In the latter case, the particles may comprisemelamine formaldehyde. The assay may be usedto detect analytes in aqueous samples.
