The invention relates to the use of non-dendrimer, highly functional,hyperbranched polyesters and polycarbonates,which can be obtained by reacting (i) at least one aliphatic, cycloaliphatic,araliphatic, or aromatic dicarboxylic acid (A2) or derivativesthereof, or organic carbonates (A2') with (ii) at least one x-valentaliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic, or aromatic alcohol(C x), which comprises more than two OH groups, where x is a number greaterthan 2, preferably 3 to 8, particularly preferred 3 to6, very particularly preferred 3 to 4, and especially 3, and (iii) at leastone fatty acid amide alkoxylate (D) of saturated or unsaturatedC2-C30 fatty acid amides having on average 1 to 40 alkylene oxide units, asdemulsifiers for cracking crude oil emulsions.
