FUEL CELL, METHOD FOR PRODUCTION OF FUEL CELL, ELECTRONIC DEVICE, ENZYME-IMMOBILIZED ELECTRODE, BIOSENSOR, BIOREACTOR, ENERGY CONVERSION ELEMENT, AND ENZYMATIC REACTION-UTILIZING APPARATUS
Disclosed is a fuel cell in which at least one enzyme and at least one coenzyme are encapsulated in a micro-space and an enzymatic reaction is carried out by employing the space as a reaction field to remove electrons from a fuel efficiently and generate an electric energy, and in which the immobilization of the enzyme and the coenzyme on an electrode can be achieved readily. Also disclosed is a method for producing the fuel cell. An enzyme and a coenzyme required for the enzymatic reaction are encapsulated in a liposome (12), and the liposome (12) is immobilized on the surface of an electrode (11) which is composed of a porous carbon or the like, thereby forming an enzyme-immobilized electrode. If required, a transporter may be incorporated into the liposome (12). An electron mediator may also be immobilized on the surface of the electrode (11). The enzyme-immobilized electrode can be used as a negative electrode for a bio-fuel cell or the like.
