The invention relates to a method for controlling animal pests, whereby (1,2-benzisothiazol-3-yl)(thio)carbamates and (1,2-benzisothiazol-3-yl)(thio)oxamates and the oxidation forms thereof of formula (I), wherein A, R1, R2, R3, R4, n, X, Y and Z are defined as in the description, are used as pesticides. The invention further relates to specific components of formula (I) and to several methods for producing said components.
