INJECTABLE AND INFUSABLE MERCURY COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR TREATING CANCER

An aqueous solution suitable for injection into a mammal in need thereof includes an inorganic mercury (II) containing compound present in an amount between 0.1 nanomole and 50 millimoles Hg2+ where the solution is sufficiently stable such that there is no precipitation from the solution for at least thirty days of a visable precipitate containing at least some of said mercury. In one embodiment, a buffer which stabilizes the pH of the solution at a desired pH between 3.0 and 7.0 is provided. In another embodiment, at least one salt is provided in amounts which provide sufficient ionic strength to the solution and coordination ligand to prevent precipitation of the mercury from the solution.
