A method for determining lipoprotein components in a lipoprotein mixture to be analyzed comprises the following steps: A) Recording N1 measuring spectra of the lipoprotein mixture to be analyzed for N different measuring conditions, wherein each of the N measuring spectra has M measuring points, B) providing a mixing matrix W having N times L randomly selected, non-negative mixing parameters, a source spectra matrix H having L source spectra, each with M randomly selected, non-negative source spectra points and a measuring spectra matrix X, which is formed by the N measuring spectra, C) modifying the M source spectra points of the L source spectra by approximation of the matrix product of the mixing matrix W and the source spectra matrix H to the measuring spectra matrix X using non-negative matrix factorization under the boundary condition that the L source spectra are sparingly coded, and D) associating the L source spectra obtained from step C by the modification with known spectra of lipoprotein components.
