Method for determining a navigation solution of a navigation system having a terrain-navigation module and a navigation system

The method involves determining a supported position solution (1a) and relative paths (1b) that are covered between two height measurements. Quality of the current supported position is evaluated from the current supported position using a quality function. Pre-determined positions are formed within a search area. A comparison position is determined for each predetermined position and each path. Performances of each path, a stored terrain height-measurement and a reference height (6) are evaluated. An independent claim is also included for a navigation system with a strap-down-module, a navigation filter and a terrain-navigation module for determining a navigation solution.
