The device has a case (2) defining a housing (3) that receives a paper tape roller (101) and has two lateral walls (4) between which a horizontal centering and supporting unit of the roller is disposed and includes two cylinders. The case defines a circulation path of the paper tape from the housing to a printing device, and a control unit (10) controls a driving unit (9) driving the paper tape in the path. A sensor (11) e.g. passive sensor, determining the position of a reel (102) along a reference vertical axis is fixed on a lateral side of the housing and is connected to the control unit.
