Provided is an alcohol concentration detecting element that has high detection sensitivity to ethyl alcohol concentration and reliable precision in the detected concentration value, that can take measurements repeatedly, and that it is economical. The alcohol concentration detecting element has a first electrode (5a) and a second electrode (5b) on a flat surface of a quartz piece (3), a first inorganic compound layer (7a) formed on the surface of the first electrode (5a), and a first organic adsorption layer (9) made of an organic compound that forms an inclusion complex with ethyl alcohol and that is fixed to the surface of the first inorganic compound layer (7a). A first quartz oscillator, which has an active layer (15) comprising the first inorganic compound layer (7a) and the organic adsorption layer (9), is used as a quartz oscillator (23) for detection, and a second quartz oscillator, which utilizes the second electrode as an inert layer (17), is used as a quartz oscillator (24) for reference.
