METHOD AND PLANT FOR REDUCING THE CARBON BALANCE IN THE GLOBAL CARBON CYCLE AND GENERATING ENERGY WHILST REDUCING THE EMISSION OF GREENHOUSE GASES

The invention relates to a method for reducing the carbon balance in the global carbon cycle wherein biomass (F) is introduced into a fermentation chamber (2) sealed to the atmosphere in a gastight manner and fermented therein with generation of biogas (G) at least essentially anaerobically, the introduced biomass (B) remaining in the fermentation chamber (2) for a period of at least 5 years. It is thus possible on a large scale and economically to reduce the carbon content for the atmosphere. Furthermore, with a correspondingly long residence time for the introduced biomass (B) in the fermentation chamber (2) carbon is removed from the global carbon cycle such hat a reduction in the carbon dioxide content for the atmosphere is possible.
