The invention relates to the use of an aqueous solution of a water-soluble copolymer, which is completely or partially acid, as a coupling agent in a method for producing self-binding particles by milling at least one latex and at least one mineral material, in an aqueous medium, said water-soluble copolymer being present during the milling stage. This copolymer is made up of at least one ethylenically unsaturated anionic monomer and at least one ethylenically unsaturated oxyalkyl monomer and ends with an alkyl, alkylaryl, arylalkyl or aryl hydrophobic chain containing from 10 to 32 carbon atoms.
