The invention relates to a device (10) for the nondestructive determination of the size of an ultrasound-reflecting structure (90) in the volume of a test sample (100) by means of ultrasound. The device (10) is based on the use of a first and a second ultrasound transmitter (15, 15') which are spaced apart in the X direction and which are oriented to beam a directed first ultrasound pulse P1 and a directed second ultrasound pulse P2 into the test sample. The first and the second ultrasound pulses P1, P2 are propagated in the test sample along substantially parallel paths S1 and S2 and have different polarities P+, P-. Furthermore, means are provided for summing the reflected first and second ultrasound pulses P1, P2, as are means for detecting the amplitude maximums Amax of the summed reflected first and second ultrasound pulses P1, P2. Finally, the device has means for detecting a displacement (50), of a defined amount ΔX, of the first and the second ultrasound transmitters (15, 15') along the X-axis.
