The present invention discloses a new alternative for the prevention of salmonellosis, using mutants that can promote immunisation in the host. In particular, these mutants are neutral for the IHF himA and himD genes, and were tested for virulence attenuation and capacity to trigger an effective immune response that protects against salmonellosis, in particular against murine salmonellosis. Consequently, the present invention is directed to a method for producing this attenuated mutant strain capable of promoting immunisation, to vaccine vectors and vaccines for the treatment of salmonellosis, and to the use thereof for combatting said infection.
