At a plurality of circumferential positions about an axis of the workpiece, at least one of the tool and the workpiece are moved relative to each other in a direction substantially perpendicular to a direction of the axis of the workpiece while simultaneously moving at least one of the tool and the workpiece relative to each other in substantially an axial direction of the workpiece so that the at least one cutting edge forms a plurality of recesses in the workpiece, the plurality of recesses defining a helical thread.
