Disclosed are an indicator (risk marker) which is useful for determining and evaluating a risk for carcinogenesis caused by inhalation exposure to nanoparticles, and use of the same. Specifically disclosed is macrophage inflammatory protein 1α (MIP 1α) to be used as a risk marker for carcinogenesis caused by inhalation exposure to nanoparticles. Also disclosed is a method for evaluating the carcinogenic risk with the use of the level of MIP 1α in a specimen collected from a subject.
