Provided is a method for diagnosing diabetes in a human, wherein the method comprises establishing in a biological sample from the human an increased expression of marker protein Zinc Finger protein 43 (P28160). Moreover, there is provided a test kit for diagnosing diabetes or a genetic predisposition for diabetes in a mammal.
