A cleaning device for a sewage screen is described. Said cleaning device comprises a suction head (3) which is guided across the screening surface of the sewage screen (2) by means of an adjusting mechanism (5). The suction head (3) is connected to a suction chamber, inside which a solid separator, e.g. in the form of a separation screen, is arranged and the sucked solids are separated from the water. In order to substantially maintain the negative pressure and simultaneously be able to empty the suction chamber, a weight-controlled water drainage flap is arranged on the bottom of the suction chamber and opens as soon as a certain water level has been reached in the suction chamber.
