The present invention discloses use of a composition comprising N-terminal lectin-like domain of thrombomodulin (TMD1) or analogues thereof in the preparation of a medicament for the treatment or prevention of a disease resulting from Lewis Y antigen over-expression; and a kit and method of detecting cancer cells, Gram-negative bacteria or LPS which over-express the Lewis Y antigen in a sample from a subject.
