A method for improving accuracy of nuclear quadrupole resonance ('NQR' or 'QR') detection and/or identification of a target sample is disclosed. The method may include applying a train of radio-frequency ('RF') pulses, wherein the train of RF pulses is configured to compensate for inhomogeneities in a RF magnetic field. Additionally, the method renders QR detection in inhomogeneous magnetic fields less sensitive to the geometry, orientation, and position of the target sample. The train of RF pulses may comprise a uniquely configured composite preparatory pulse followed by a series of single refocusing pulses.
