A receiver (110) receives data streams which have been previously edited and enhanced with an additional layer providing a higher frame rate at specific positions in regions of the image data exhibiting a large difference in data amount between adjacent frames.A selector (112) acquires moving image data for normal reproduction and identification information of the regions of interest ROI.A reproduction unit (114) reproduces moving image data for normal reproduction, at a standard frame rate. A position specifying unit (118) indicates the positions at which moving image data for special reproduction (enhanced layer) is present.Upon a user specifying which position region of interest (F, G, J, K, N, O) for special reproduction is to be reproduced in slow motion, a data acquiring unit (120) acquires, based on the specified position thereof, the moving image data for special reproduction and reproduces it in slow motion.
