The method involves defining a diagenesis cycle (SD) including precipitations and dissolutions in a porous medium and an initial pore network structure by physical measurements and observations. Representation of the network is constructed by a pore network model (PNM) comprising a set of nodes connected by channels. Ion concentration on walls of each node and channel is determined, and a geometry variation for the nodes and channels of the model is deduced. Permeability (K) and porosity of the modified PNM is determined, and a relationship between permeability and porosity is determined. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for determining a potential location of an underground reservoir within a sedimentary basin including a porous medium (2) a method for enhancing hydrocarbon recovery in an underground reservoir including a porous medium.
