The present invention discloses a method for evaluating key production indicators (KPI) in a manufacturing execution system (MES), comprising the steps of:-executing an object oriented tool (PM) for modeling a production process in the manufacturing execution system (MES), the modeling including a definition of plant floor equipments involved in the production process and corresponding MES applications managing the plant floor equipments;-executing a plant performance analyzer (PPA) tool for calculating the key production indicators (KPI) on the plant floor equipments; and-reading the key production indicators (KPI) calculated by the plant performance analyzer (PPA) tool in the object oriented tool (PM). The step of modeling the production process comprises the definition of a class (KPI.class) associated to the key production indicators (KPI) and including the calculus to be executed by the plant performance analyzer (PPA) on the plant floor equipments.
