PURPOSE: A digital image photographing apparatus, a method for controlling the same, and a recording medium storing program to implement the method are provided to automatically recognize photographing mode to change the initial location of auto focusing according to a recognized photographing image, thereby reducing auto focusing time.;CONSTITUTION: A location of a focus lens(123-2) is varied for auto focusing. An image sensor(123-4) obtains data about an image from light passing through the focus lens. A scene recognition unit(129-1) sets photographing mode suitable for the image data.
