An equalizer characteristic optimization method comprises a recovery clock acquiring step of acquiring recovery clock timing from the waveform of a received signal, a sampling clock acquiring step of acquiring predetermined sampling clock timing centered on the recovery clock timing, a first latch step of latching the received signal at the recovery clock timing, a second latch step of latching the received signal at the sampling clock timing, a logical value comparing step of comparing the logical value acquired in the first latch step with the logical value acquired in the second latch step, a data collecting step of changing the setting of the characteristic of an equalizer and repeating the operation to perform the recovery clock acquiring step, the sampling clock acquiring step, the first latch step, the second latch step, and the logical value comparing step in the state after the change, and an optimum setting extracting step of determining the setting of the optimum characteristic of the equalizer from the data of the result of the logical value comparison collected in the data collecting step.;COPYRIGHT KIPO & WIPO 2010
