PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for providing an instant messaging service between mobile terminals are provided to perform the message exchange between an IM service supporting terminal and a non IM service supporting terminal.;CONSTITUTION: A message transmission and reception unit(106a) receives an outgoing message, which is transmitted from a transmission terminal, through a messaging service. A message confirmation unit(106b) confirms the kind of a reception terminal by using the callee information included in the outgoing message.
