PURPOSE: A skin whitening cosmetic composition containing liposomes is provided to suppress melanogenesis, to decompose melanin, and to reduce pigmentation and melasma. CONSTITUTION: A skin whitening cosmetic composition contains liposomes comprising phosphatidyl ethanolamine having one or more carbon chain of one or more unsaturated bond or lipid mixture of phosphatidyl choline having one or more carbon chain of one or more unsaturated bond. The number of carbon in the phosphatidylcholine is 5-30. The liposome contains whitening material of L-ascorbic acid or derivative thereof, hydroquinone or derivative thereof, kojic acid or its derivative, or albutin. The composition is used in the form of nutrition cream, nutrition lotion, essence, cleansing cream, cleansing lotion, pack, body lotion, body cream, body essence, make up base, foundation, ointment, gel, cream, or patch.
