PURPOSE: An image forming apparatus capable of compensating a color registration error and a method of compensating a color registration error are provided to adjust intervals of sub scanning directions of scanned optical beams, thereby compensating a color registration error.;CONSTITUTION: An optical scanning unit(100) scans the first to fourth light beams modulated according to image information on the first to fourth photosensitive drums. The outer circumferences of first to fourth photosensitive drums correspond to a scanned surface. The scanned first to fourth light beams are images on the scanned surface.
