PURPOSE: A composition containing Ape1/Ref-1(Apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1) is provided to induce neurite generation, to protect neural cells, and to prevent and treat neurodegenerative diseases.;CONSTITUTION: A polypeptide enhancing the expression of glial cell-derived neurotropic factor receptor alpha 1(GFR alpha 1) comprises 100-150 amino acids contains 1-100th amino acids which are Ape1/Ref-1 oxidation/reduction domain. The Ape1/Ref-1 oxidation/reduction domain has an amino acid sequence of sequence number 2. A polynucleotide encoding the polypeptide has a nucleotide sequence of sequence number 3.
