PURPOSE: A novel rhodamine derivative and a method for detecting mercury ion using a sensor for detecting mercury ion are provided to ensure high selectivity and sensitivity.;CONSTITUTION: A rhodamine derivative is denoted by chemical formula 1. In chemical formula 1, R1-R4 are independently hydrogen or 1-4 alkyl group. A method for preparing the rhodamine devative comprises: a step of a hydrolyzing a compound of chemical formula 3 to obtain a compound of chemical formula 2; and a step of reacting the compound of chemical formula 2 with POCI_3 and thiourea.
