PURPOSE: A composition containing Rhei Rhizoma extract or fraction or stilbene compounds is provided to suppress bond between ICAM-1 and leukemia-relating antigen-1(LFA-1; CD11a/CD18) and to prevent and treat inflammatory or infectious diseases. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating inflammatory diseases or infectious diseases contains Rhei Rhizoma extract or fraction as an active ingredient. The Rhei Rhizoma extract is isolated using water, low alcohol of 1-4 carbon atoms or mixture solvent thereof. The Rhei Rhizoma fraction is water, n-hexane, or chloroform fraction. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating inflammatory or infectious diseases contains the stilbene compounds of chemical formula 1 or 2 as an active ingredient. The stilbene compounds is isolated from Rhei Rhizoma, grape, grape wine, strawberry, raspberry, cranberry, mulberry, plum, cocoa, pine or peanut.
