PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing Rhei Rhizoma extract or fraction or stilbene compounds is provided to suppress binding between ICAM-1 and leukemia-associated antigen(LFA-1, CD11a/CD18). CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating infectious diseases by rhinovirus, coxsackie virus, malaria, or HIV-1(human immunodeficiency virus type-1) contains Rhei Rhizoma extract or fraction as an active ingredient. The Rhei Rhizoma extract is isolated using water, low alcohol of 1-4 carbon atoms or mixture solvent thereof. The Rhei Rhizoma fraction is water fraction, n-hexane fraction, or chloroform fraction. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating infectious diseases contains stilbene compounds of chemical formula 1 or 2 as an active ingredient. The stilbene compounds is isolated from Rhei Rhizoma, grape, grape wine, strawberry, raspberry, cranberry, mulberry, plum, cocoa, pine or peanut. The composition is an external use skin formulation.
