PURPOSE: A banknote counter, an apparatus and a method for detecting counterfeit banknotes are provided to detect a partially counterfeited banknote by using a distance and an element state of a counterfeit prevention element on each banknote. CONSTITUTION: An operation unit(10) designates a specific country for counting and investigating banknotes. An ultrasonic sensor(20) is arranged on the banknote moving path of a banknote counter(1) and a banknote investigator(2). The ultrasonic sensor measures the distance and element state of the counterfeit prevention element of the banknote. A controller(30) compares and determines the distance and element state of the counterfeit prevention element according to each country and the kind of banknotes.
