PURPOSE: A method for executing a function of a portable terminal using a user gesture is provided to simplify a function execution procedure corresponding to the execution of a function of the portable terminal, thereby providing convenience.;CONSTITUTION: A portable terminal executes a mode corresponding to a user request(S201). The portable terminal activates a gesture input mode in response to the user request during the mode(S205,S209). The portable terminal receives a user gesture during the gesture input mode(S213).
