PURPOSE: A casting roll for manufacturing metal strip by melt drag process is provided to effectively reduce widthwise temperature deviation of strip and reflect casting characteristics of molten metal by casting the metal strip using casting rolls of various materials, and a method for manufacturing the metal strip by melt drag process is provided. CONSTITUTION: The casting roll comprises a roll shaft(1) on which a plurality of holes are formed, a hollow shape formed in the casting roll so that cooling water is circulated inside the casting roll, and a Cu based alloy core(2) formed in a surface part of the outer circumference of the casting roll, wherein a plurality of grooves are longitudinally formed on the circumference of the core so that a plurality of casting roll rings(4) are connected to the plurality of grooves, the plurality of casting roll rings are consisted of inner diameter(6) and outer diameter having a certain width, thickness gradient(7) in the certain range is given to the casting roll rings in such a way that thickness is reduced from the outer diameter to the inner diameter of the casting roll rings, and a space formed by difference of the inner diameter and the outer diameter of the casting roll rings is filled with heat insulating material(8) and sealed before adjacent rings and the core are mechanically bonded to each other.
