The invention starts a method of selectively activating a server application in a computer network system.The computer network system includes server computers, multiple client computers, server application packages on the server computers and the specified protocols for managing the activation of the above server applications.This method includes the phase in which the system administrator defines the complex state of the network system and the phase in which each server application can determine whether it is able to be active in the complex state.The protocol tax specified below manages the activation of the server application according to the specified conditions.
