The Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is a known standard set of protocols for Local Area Networks (LAN) as well as Wide Area Networks (WAN). The name TCP/IP is actually a collection of protocols which operate above the Network driver (Ethernet or ARPA) and below the application program(s) and operating system. When installed in interconnected processors it allows users at any connected terminal or processor to access files, programs and peripherals anywhere on the network.
