1. A computer-implemented method for rescaling a physical property in a region of interest with the transition from a small-scale grid where the values of this property are known to several large grids, the property being related to a diffuse process in the region of interest, and this method comprises the following steps:! a) choose a volume in the region of interest, and said volume is at least a portion of this region of interest; ! b) dividing said volume into a plurality of fine mesh cells to create a fine-scale grid for that volume, and obtaining a physical property value for each of the plurality of fine mesh cells; ! c) solve the diffusion equation reflecting the diffusion process for the small-scale mesh in the selected volume, using the physical property values for the small-scale, thereby generating a global solution; ! d) retain a global solution; ! e) dividing the selected volume using a first coarse grid containing at least one coarse grid cell, the number of cells in said plurality of fine grid cells exceeding the number of cells consisting of said at least one coarse mesh cell; ! f) selecting a coarse mesh cell and determining which of the plurality of fine mesh cells are enclosed in whole or in part in the selected coarse mesh cell using the preselected partial inclusion criterion; ! g) calculate the rescaled value of the physical property for the selected coarse mesh cell, extracting and using the global solution for the fine mesh cells enclosed within the selected coarse mesh cell
